Evalaution Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

To establish the scheme of our film, as a group we decided which genre of film we would all prefer to do. After time to think about it  we decided to do a Crime/action mafia  film, we all contributed to write a brief story line containing Two mafia groups who are arch rivals where one gets infiltrated by the other right under their noses three characters where one would murder the other.
The genre to our film is Crime/Action. To do this we used obvious, stereotypical mise en scene line guns and other mafia related props.

During the clip, we used a variety of camera angles and shot movements and positions. For example, during conversations, shot reverse shot was using to show the two characters having the conversation and their facial expressions towards one another. We also used close ups and extreme close ups to represent the same point. Establishing shots were used to set the scene and to show characters that were involved in each scene and their clothing..

For the mise-en-scene, we were very stereotypical to what each character would wear, for example dressing a mafia member in typical mafia suit: two piece, shirt and ties. This made the characters look that more dangerous and a profession in their field of work and can be recognised from the norm which is key so that it can deter lower class people to approach them as they are dangerous.

For sound we used music and dialogue , the dialogue was recorded by both the HD camera and a zoom recorder we had to use a zoom recorder for the distance of the camera could not capture the sound clearly without being interrupted due to the outside environment. Then for the music we used free copyright website to get a nice piano music for the title sequence and throughout.

Continuity and editing we used we used many cuts and editing technique to demonstrate continuity and passage of time as well. We used fades to demonstrate passage of time and also juxtaposition where it shows that two things are happening at the same time for example john walking down the street whilst the don and Michael are talking to each other and also john gets further down when it fades back to him to show that passage of time it had this makes it look very real which improves continuity and also make the audience believe for a split second that everything that is accruing is all real

Typography, for the font during the title sequence we used the bold Times New Roman font type and colour white to make it look more intimidating. We made the writing White to stand out from our black and white fuzzy background sequence as we thought if it was black it would blend in with the sequence and also most films opening sequence use white font as it would be more professional to look like the norm for the movies.
Iconography we had images in the title sequence what was interpretated to set the scene to set the scene also to illustrate the following of the film to give the audience a kind of idea of what is going to unravel.

Evaluation Question 2

Evaluation Question 7

Our preliminary exercise was a task to help improve our use of continuity. This involved filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

The main task was to write and record the first two minutes of a film, including a title sequence. We had transferred after rehearsing the skills we used in the preliminary task to our main task, for example we used the same idea of entering through a door to expresses a match on action. Also, we managed to use shot reverse shot in the conversations we had filmed and kept to the 180 degree line of action rule. We did improve our edition with practice from the preliminary task. Our edits were more accurate and continues and they became much easier to do as we started editing our main film.

Also, dialogue was much easier to match than it was in the preliminary task and that became easier the methods we used in the main task were by and large identical.  Except in the main task we had to record outside but the camera could capture all the dialogue as its microphone wasn’t as got outside so we used a zoom microphone which we didn’t use in the preliminary exercise which we thought we added quite well and manage to adapt and make it work as it was also the first time we used that and edit with it.

Evaluation question 4

Question 4 who would be the audience for your media product?
My audience for our product which is a film with a mafia theme has  been targeted at mainly men orientated who are between the age of 16-40 as it is a money, fantasy and hard to pull off lifestyle. It will mainly attract this audience as because of men’s habit for understanding and nosiness how the illegal trade and quick money business is getting run so that they feel educated about that stuff. This film makes them feel the sense of what it’s like to be on the other side and actually feeling like there in the business experiencing the wrong side of the law that is what is attracting the audience to come and see our product. Also it’s going to attract the audience who’s not got enough excitement in their lives so they can seek a little thrill and enjoyment in their lives. In our pre production research we conducted interviews for audience profile and we found out from our results that the audience would prefer a product like this as the theme is quite rare and when they are created they’ve all got a unique and original storyline which makes it better for us to create it as we would be less worried to make it as the audience wont think that it will be generic mafia film as there isn’t any generic mafia films to follow up on. Also what we extracted from the results is that some middle aged women are interested in films like this as they believe that fascinating as they were once true events and still are that is going on which women feel that they want to understand the meaning of the their history and present and what’s happening so that they can keep an eye out for any signs for example the film Taken when the girls get kidnapped by mafias in Paris it was shockingly appealing to women as they felt the need to be well informed of possible current events in the real world which is allowing to feel more confident about creating this film as we feel less worried about gaining audience to see our film as our research has proven that the film has a really wide target audience due to loads of individual reasons which we will take in to consideration when creating the product to try and most of the individual reasons into the product as then the range of the target audience would keep increasing as it will to trigger more peoples interest. We also believe that we will get a few older audience as we believe that some could reflect to this genre either that they could have been around or they could also had have been in the lifestyle and really experience it and we need to take that into consideration as it we feel that we need to the lifestyle accurate and commercially overboard it with stereotypical understanding of the genre but the truth of it and the unpleasant side to it as it has left people far from worse if they chose a  different path to life.

evaluation 3

What kind of media institutions might your media product and why?
I will look at this with two types of companies, ones side will be from and big well known company and the other side a small independent company. First of all a big company for example Time Warner have a really big budget and are a big conglomerate with loads of useful subsidiaries that will make anything possible when creating a product like ours. A huge advantage of this is that it can have a large successful market and advertising campaign that make more potential audience really aware of our product due to its budget and subsidiaries such as Time Warner owning magazine and TV companies like Time magazine and HBO TV which are both really successful in their individual field of business and from there after the release it could start to spread due to word of mouth and even more potential audience will try and watch it and could turn into a huge sensation but the disadvantage to this is the run up might be all appealing but the whole product might not fulfil its potential and get bad reviews and have bad publicity which can be bad due to a high spend in creating this film and potentially not turn a profit which may be worse for the products expansion. Another advantage is that Time Warner has a big repetition the recognition will be easier to get for example you here that a film has been made by Time Warner and the audience know that they have made some good films in the past it will encourage more potential audience to  watch it. A disadvantage is that big companies are known for overdoing it and spending too much which can make it unrealistic which can make the product loose potential audience.
The other companies are small independent film companies and the advantage is that there creating is cheap which could potential have a bigger profit margin and also the budget can increase freely by things like crowd funding which is when you give potential audience the idea and they can donate money for the creation which also means that you have audience who are willing to see the film and can allows extra detail to be added into the film. Another advantage is that films created by small businesses is that they tend to be appealing to the hard fussy audience who despise the generic over budgeted action films with too much flash and money, this means it can also appeal to a wider audience. A disadvantage is that it has to do horizontal integration which means it has to combine with different companies to create the product as it not a conglomerate which has not got subsidiaries to help create and market the product.  This can cost more which is taken from the budget which could have gone elsewhere to the product. Another disadvantage is that they are not globally well known so that it tends to have a smaller range of audience which may not turn as much profit as the big company but in some situations the films can tend to do well and become huger then the big budgeted films overtime due to the word of mouth. Another disadvantage is the budget and that it don’t allow everything for the product to be completed as best as it can be for example equipment quality when creating the film the camera might be the best resolution which can be harder for the audience to choose this film over a big budgeted if close to release to one and other.

during the film the character john got a phone call from Hanson  which to receive that phone call he used the Iphone 5  black.which then disposed that phone as the mafia don't like to leave a trace behind so the got a new phone which is  LG below as he received another phone call later and you see him using this phone.

Costumes

Costumes
down below you can see the most notorious, well known mafia leader in the whole world Al Capone. what members of the mafia traditionally wear are suits. As people with suits are taken serious also it gives them an appearance of superiority and high in the social class.as you can see Al Capone is wearing a suit so what we thought would be appropriate is for our cast to wear suits as costumes for our film as it is a mafia themed film

here is one of our actors in a suit for the film he is playing the character john and the same goes from the above the suit displays the superiority of the character and makes him stand out with that authority look
