Music in Crime Films
music in this genre is typically orchestral music, for both soundtrack and to create tension and atmosphere within the film. In our film, i think that our film would suit a traditional trumpet piece, or old style Italian music, as what is used throughout The Godfather, or 1930's style 'big band' music, reminiscent of old mafia films, or we could have a more contemporary style with a blues guitar or slide guitar, or a heavier rock kind of riff. We have two options as what to use; record our own with computer recording software, or get copyright free music from the internet.

Production logo
Production Logo:
The original idea for the production logo has for the studio to be called, 'Red House Productions', however with that being an existing production company within the British film industry we decided as a collective to go for a similar but alternate 'Red Room Productions'. We focused on using the colour red as it has many different connotations. many of which link to genres in the film industry, such as horror or romance, it is a easily recognised colour that boasts boldness in order to draw attention to our production. The camera is easily recognised and is automatically associated with the film industry, this immediately informs consumers what industry the company belongs in and can unconsciously promote productions from the company. The logo is designed to fade in the center as it creates a contrast of colours against the central outline of the camera, highlighting and creating impact for the image within the logo. We picked a typography that would match the time of film production being created, old fashioned but sleek in style, it makes the logo aesthetically pleasing to read and informs the audience that how the company is presented in the UK industry is important to the company.

Audience Profile
Audience profile
Our film is aimed at the 15 to 30 age group. The possible age range could be extended as it features scenes which are reminiscent of older crime films such as "Goodfellas", "The Godfather" and "The Untouchables". This could add a nostalgia affect as some of the same qualities of classic films such as the ones previously mentioned are touched upon rather heavily in our film, 'The Don'.
We expect our audience to be predominantly male, (although we do not want to exclude the female audience, as violent crime can appeal to anyone) as it is based around classic crime and old fashioned gangster themes, with constant violence.
The film is not intended for a young, impressionable audience due to the violent nature of the 'crime industry' and the assumptions which go with the 'gangster' lifestyle, such as drugs and threatening behaviour, although our film doesn't show or hint any use of illegal substances .

Shot List
Pan:
How: Move the camera horizontally left or right. Ideally, you should use a tripod for a smooth effect.
Why: To follow a subject or show the distance between two objects. Pan shots also work great for panoramic views.
Tilt:
How: Moving the camera up or down without raising its position.
Why: Like panning, to follow a subject or to show the top and bottom of a stationary object. With a tilt, you can also show how high something is. For example, using a tilt shot on someone who is quite tall in size would show some power they may have.
Dolly:
How: The camera is set on tracks or wheels and moved towards or back from a subject. A dolly is also a noun, describing a train track contraption used for a dolly (verb) shot or a device attached to a tripod.
Why:To follow an object smoothly to get a unique perspective. In some movies directors combine the dolly and a zoom shot for a real sense of suspense. To do this they would, the camera zooms into the subject at the same time as the camera dollies out, and the person in the shot remains the same size, but the background appears to move.
Boom:
How: This works and looks similar to a construction crane, continusously rising up to gain a vertical shot typically of something very tall. It is used for high sweeping shots or to follow the action of your subject.
Why: Gives a bird's eye view. It looks as if the camera is swooping down from above. Movie directors use this for street scenes so they can shoot from above the crowd and the traffic, and then move down to eye level.
Handheld:
How: You hold the camera without a device to support it like a tripod, literally holding the camera in your hand. Professional cameras which are larger are normally held on the cameraman's shoulders to reduce shaking. This balances the camera and keeps shaking to a minimum. Because of their size, most consumer cameras can't rest on your shoulder and should be practiced to create a good shot.
Why: Due to the nature of the action, many news crews and most documentaries use hand-held shooting techniques. Sometimes, it is used in TV shows and movies, mainly in action and horror films to create suspense or to have a first person view of the action.
research into possible distributor
click here for the warp website
warp films is an independent distributor, based in Sheffield and in London. Their main success came from the "This is England' series by shane meadows, which won awards at the BAFTAs and other film festivals.
Shane Meadows also directed "Made of Stone", which followed the influential 'Stone Roses' band as they reformed and played certain comeback gigs at famous venues such as Heaton park. this film gained success amongst older and younger viewers alike, as older people who loved the band in the 1990's can re live the experience, and younger viewer who also love the band can relate to it, that being said, the audience was very limited.
Another film distributed by Warp is 'Submarine', directed by the comedian Richard Ayoade, which gained success amongst viewers who like the band 'Arctic Monkeys', as the front man recorded the sound track, which helped with the popularity of the film, as that is how I heard of it.
also, Chris Morris' film 'Four Lions', which gained popularity due to the controversial subject matter, as it was joking about terrorists.

Typical characters of the genre
Typical characters of the crime genre are generally high profile crime leaders who are in charge of an illegal business, and has his associates who work for hime, and are generally less important, and have lass money (that being said, close associates of the boss figure are usually rather well off, or main characters can be people who are involved in a certain organisation, such as Derek Vineyard on 'American History X'
- Vito Corleone - this is a typical 'boss' character from the film 'The Godfather'. He is the main man in charge of the Corleone crime family and rarely does the dirty work for himself, but gets the men who work for him, but who are lower down the hierarchy of the organisation.
- Jules Winnfield - this character works for the boss of this certain crime organisation, has a partner and carries out the dirty work for the boss, and generally acts thug like.
- Vincent Vega- partner of Jules Winnfield in 'Pulp Fiction', does jobs for the boss, which include sending certain messages to people, finding out information, and killing people .
- Al capone- from the film 'the untouchables' (based on a true story). He is the leader of the crime organisation, who sees it as a business. makes sure he cannot get caught by getting other people to kill and send certain messages, and filters money through legitimate businesses so that the police have nothing on him.
